Laura,

Well, I have to say, "Long time, no see!!!" I don't know if you remember me very well. I used to be one of your English teachers. A lot of my former students want to continue improving their English. They ask me for suggestions on the best and fastest ways to improve their English. There are many things you can do to keep improving and perfecting your English. Many of these things are even easy and fun. I'd like to send you some tips, links to helpful websites, explanations about the common errors students make and how to correct them and even some short interesting stories that would be good for your English. If you don't want to receive these Emails, just let me know and I'll stop sending them to you. Have fun learning English!

Laura,

Do you want to learn English? Do you want to learn quickly? Here are my basic tips. You should try to use English as much as possible. You should try to READ as much as possible in English. Find something interesting to read, something you like, even sports or fashion magazines. You should try to LISTEN as much as possible in English. Find something interesting to listen to, something you like, including English music. You should try to SPEAK as much as possible in English. You can practice with your friends or colleagues. You should try to WRITE as much as possible in English. When you use QQ, chat with your friends in English. You should try to THINK as much as possible in English. When you are traveling on the bus or walking, think about things with English words. You can learn English quickly! What have you done TODAY to improve your English?

Laura,

This is my favorite website to help students and it is the favorite of many teachers and students around the world. Visit the site and find an MP3 on a subject that is interesting to you. http://www.eslpod.com Tell us which English lessons you liked at ESL Pod. What have you done TODAY to improve your English?

Laura,

A Japanese proverb says, "Fall seven times, stand up eight." Maybe you feel you tried to learn English before but failed. Just keep trying. You'll succeed. Millions and millions of people have felt like you and they kept going and finally succeeded. You will succeed, too! What have you done TODAY to improve your English?

Laura,

A student wrote me: "I am afraid when speaking with a foreigner." That is normal. The more you do it, the better you'll be. So just do it. Fear is a bad thing. It is like a prison that you make for yourself. Fear doesn't help you. Sometimes you have to challenge your fears. Sometimes you have to do the things that you are afraid of. If you see a foreigner looking at a map and trying to find his way and you have a feeling of fear about talking to him, you should make yourself go and talk with him. If you see a foreigner sitting alone in a McDonald's or Starbucks, you should sit near him and say, "Hi!" and start up a conversation. You can do it! It's a great way to improve your English and make new friends! Have fun with English!

Laura,

"If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time. " If we don't have a target we may not get anything done. What is your target? Have fun with English!

Laura,

One of the most common student mistakes is what we call verb agreement. The verb needs to agree with the noun. For example: INCORRECT: There are many car in Guangzhou. CORRECT: There are many cars in Guangzhou. If you can remember to do that correctly it will be a great help to your English. I don't want you to think of English as a 'course', 'lesson' or 'school subject'. I want you to think of English as a 'way of life'. That is why I send you these Emails.

Laura,

Here is a short story from Chicken Soup for the Soul. These very interesting stories are very good for your English. Enjoy! ~~~ The Gift Bennet Cerf tells this touching story about a bus that was driving along a back road in the southern United States. In one seat an old man sat holding a bunch of fresh flowers. Across the aisle was a young girl who kept looking again and again at the man's flowers. The time came for the old man to get off. Suddenly he put the flowers into the girl's lap. "I can see you love the flowers," he explained, "and I think my wife would like for you to have them. I'll tell her I gave them to you." The girl accepted the flowers, then watched the old man get off the bus and walk through the gate of a small cemetery.

I don't want you to think of English as a 'course', 'lesson' or 'school subject'. I want you to think of English as a 'way of life'. That is why I send you these Emails.

Laura,

You should keep a notebook or a file on your computer with words that you often see and want to learn. Don't write down every word that you don't know. Many of those words are not so important for you. But you should write down the words you see often.

Laura,

Some of my students just love this story called American Photo Album. It's a story about an American family and the things that happen to them. Even if your English is mamahoohoo you can enjoy this. I suggest you download and listen to the mp3's a couple times and then read the story after listening to it. You can find it at: http://www.kekenet.com/Article/album/Index.shtml http://www.tigtag.com/languages/Listening/brand/16377.shtml Don't worry if you cannot understand every word. If you enjoy the story then your English will improve by listening to it and reading it even if you don't learn every single new word. Try it out and tell me what you think.

Laura,

Stephen Covey, a famous American author, said: "Begin with the end in mind." Think about yourself in the future. What would you like your Enlish level to be? Think of yourself speaking English with a foreigner, making friends with him while flying on a plane. How well will you be able to speak English with him? Think of yourself doing a presentation in front of many foreigner managers. How well will you be able to speak English to them? Think of yourself in the future and how well you want to speak English. In two years, how well do you want to speak English? Set that as your goal. Now what do you need to do every month to achieve that goal? What do you need to do every week to achieve that goal? What do you need to do everyday to achieve that goal? Make a plan and work towards your goal and you will succeed! Begin with the end in mind. Start now by thinking of how well you will be able to speak English later. HAPPY MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL!

Laura,

A student wrote me: "I would like to learn some traditional stories of foreign countries." Here is my reply: Probably the best way is to watch movies. There are many movies about traditional stories of Christmas and other things. Try movies. It is the easiest and most fun way to learn about this. And of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Cambridge University Press just contacted me to ask me to do a presentation at the University City about dictionaries. That should be interesting.

Laura,

Napoleon Hill, a very famous business consultant and author, said: "A goal is a dream with a deadline." That's so true. What is your goal for learning English? What is your deadline? Have fun learning English!

i'm happiness

happy teacher's day

i'm okey
